Announcing Crow of the Ardent Dawn

I am so thrilled to officially announce my second book: Crow of the Ardent Dawn will (tentatively) be releasing August 1st!

This queer romantic dieselpunk fantasy is the direct sequel to my 2022 debut novel Owl of the Pale Moon and features the further adventures of Cassie, Gwynne, and company as they learn to love themselves and one another.

Featuring a cover illustration by the lovely BatClam of FierceFerrets.

Synopsis

She got the girl, but lost her home. Can Cassie keep her found family together and save the world?

Cassie was once a miserable factory worker, but when Gwynne crash-landed in her sleepy town, everything changed. Now, she's a fledgling wizard, a phantom thief, and an enemy of the kingdom. House Brandwyck lies in ruins and this ragtag found-family must rebuild by tearing down corrupt capitalists all over the continent if they ever hope to return to the skies once more.

But trouble follows the House at every step. Along the way, they'll have to navigate runaway train mysteries, trouble in the tropical paradise of The Emerald Coast, crumbling ruins in the desert kingdom of Osria, cutthroat sky pirates, and a pyromaniacal new religion sweeping the kingdom. Besides, Cassie quickly learns that a relationship isn't all sunshine and rainbows, and she'll have to conquer the toughest trial of all: self-acceptance.

All the while, the Kingdom of Zona is undergoing drastic changes under new management, an upcoming political summit will define the future of the entire continent, and a sinister threat is building beneath the capital.

Cassie, Gwynne, and company will need to use their brains, brawn, and magic to solve mysteries, fight eldritch monstrosities, make new friends, and tangle with cultists. Can they save the world, and maybe learn to love themselves along the way?

Pricing & Preorders

Preorders are coming soon! I'm currently working on a shop overhaul here on the site to roll my own eCommerce features (what could possibly go wrong?), and I'm hoping to have this ready in the coming weeks.

The book will be available in both print paperback and ebook formats for US$29 and US$10, respectively, though bundles with Owl of the Pale Moon will be available to purchase exclusively through this site, and all paperback orders will include a complimentary ebook copy.

Once the book has launched, it should be available to purchase anywhere fine books are sold online, such as Amazon and Barnes & Noble. Ebook copies will also be available on my Itch.io page, if you prefer that platform.

Of course, all my Patreon supporters at the time of release will receive a complementary ebook copy as part of their membership and as thanks for their continued support.

Conclusion

That's all for now, folks! Please get hyped for this momentous release and make sure to tell all your friends! Also please consider picking up a copy as soon as you can upon release, as word of mouth and early sales momentum are CRUCIAL for small authors like me to succeed.

In the meantime, feel free to spread the hype and yap with the community on Discord. See you all in a month!

Call for Beta Readers for Crow of the Ardent Dawn

I am about halfway through my edit of Crow of the Ardent Dawn! I have decided that I am ready to get the book into the hands of beta readers. I am hungry for feedback!

If you are interested, let me know in whatever way is most convenient for you. You'll need to read through the book and provide detailed feedback. There is a crisp paperback copy in it for you once the book releases, as well as a spot in my Acknowledgements!

Keep in mind, this is an epic fantasy novel (almost 200k words) and a direct sequel to an existing book. Reading Owl of the Pale Moon first is required, though the ebook for this book is freely available.

For more information, see the series page here on the site. You can contact me through Discord, email, or whichever way is most convenient to you.

Crow of the Ardent Dawn Draft Finished!

Everyone, it is with great pleasure and pride that I announce that the draft for House Brandwyck book 2: Crow of the Ardent Dawn is now complete.

This massive undertaking has taken me almost three years on just the draft, never mind all the time I spent outlining before that. I did take almost an entire year off in '24, which has delayed the production of the book, but I am happy to say that the draft is now complete from beginning to end.

The current word count is 199,165 words of main chapter content and 3599 words of Appendix and back matter content.

This number will of course change slightly as I move into the editing and revision stage of the project. This will take some time, as this is a large book. However, this means that the next major announcement will be about the book's release.

I want to extend a hearty thanks to everyone who has read the first book, Owl of the Pale Moon. It's hard enough to write a book, but promoting it and getting people to actually read the damn thing is another challenge entirely. To everyone who has recommended the book by word of mouth, I am more grateful to you than I can describe. It's really the only way that independent authors like myself can gain traction shy of selling my soul and shilling the book along to TikTok dances, or whatever it is young people do these days.

If you haven't read the first book, there's no better time to start than now! The ebook is free, or you can pick up a gorgeous trade-sized paperback copy from me or wherever fine books are sold online.

I will also be needing beta readers! If you want to help me out and get a free paperback copy of the book for your effort, please let me know on discord, by email, or however else you normally get in contact with me.

That's all for now, everyone. I hope you're looking forward to more fantastical adventures of Cassie, Gwynne, and friends in Crow of the Ardent Dawn.

Understanding Abstraction in Gaming

Many years ago now, I saw an article on Reddit (which, for the record, I have long since abandoned) that made me so mad that it changed the way I think about art. The article in question was a huge list of cliches and tropes in RPG video games, everything from "you're always the Chosen One" to "The church is very bad and nobody knows except you." Obviously, the article was not meant to be taken seriously. It was a joke, just someone tongue-in-cheek poking fun at tropes. However, I am incapable of just taking things at face value, especially where People Being Wrong On The Internet is concerned. More than that, though, there was a deeper sense of smug superiority throughout the article that concerned me.

Baphomet Media 2025 Year-In-Review

Hello everyone! As 2025 is drawing to a close, today even, I want to take a moment to focus on what I've been able to accomplish this year (and not so much about what I've not accomplished). This has been a crazy year for the world in general, but I'm really happy with what I've been able to achieve. Here are some of the highlights.

  • I bought a house!
  • I created a brand new website from scratch! (You're looking at it now!)
  • We wrapped up production on Season 1 of Spirits of Lightning, as well as launching two new shows, Path of Legends and Blood & Shadows! Blood & Shadows will continue recording into the new year, and I hope to finish editing recorded episodes of these shows soon! By the way, I'm looking for some help with video editing, so if you'd like to help out, let me know!
  • A bunch of art pieces! I finally got around to drawing some OCs of mine that I've had for years, and I'm really happy about that. I'm pleased with how they turned out, and I hope to do some more art next year!
  • Progress on Crow of the Ardent Dawn. I didn't quite finish my draft of it this year like I had hoped, but it's coming along slowly but surely. I'm nearly in the home stretch. I promise I will keep everyone updated as soon as I can.
  • We adopted a kitten!
  • And most importantly: We survived the year.

It may not seem like much when listed out like this, but I'm really happy with everything I've accomplished this year. As always, if you want the choicest cuts of all the goodies, you can check out the Patreon or if you wanna chat with me and the community, visit the Discord. Here's to a better 2026, everyone!
